Biography:

She is a molecular biologist and Full Professor at the University of Sarajevo, leading the Aquatic Molecular Biology Group. Her research focuses on microbial communities in subterranean habitats of the Dinaric karst, emphasizing microbial biotechnology to discover novel bioactive compounds with applications in biotechnology, bioremediation, and habitat conservation.
She holds a PhD in molecular and cell biology from the University of Zagreb, where she studied poriferan mitochondrial genomics at the Ruđer Bošković Institute. As a Marie Curie Fellow, she continued her postdoctoral research in applied molecular biology and blue biotechnology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her interdisciplinary approach combines molecular biology, microbial ecology, and natural product discovery, showcasing the bioprospecting potential of life in extreme environments.
