Prof. dr. Uroš Potočnik

Dr. Uroš Potočnik spent 3 years (2002-2005) as postdoctoral fellow at National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, USA. He is founder and head of “Center for Human Molecular Genetics and Pharmacogenomics (CHMGF)” and full professor at University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine, Slovenia http://www.mf.uni-mb.si/chmgf. He is principal investigator in several national research projects and national coordinator in several international research projects, including Horizon2020 ERA-NET project PERMEABLE-Precision Medicine Approach to identify responders to novel Biologicals in Pediatric Asthma, and consortia, including International Inflammatory Bowel Disease Genetics Consortium (IIBDGC) and International Pharmacogenomics in Childhood Asthma consortium (PiCA). He is head of Management Board of Slovenian biobanking research infrastructure BBMRI.si within EU BBMRI-ERIC network. In 2024 he was awarded The Zois Prize, highest price in Slovenia for scientist, for his major achievements in genome research for personalised medicine.
He was president and is currently board member of Slovenian Genetic Society.
